Neramac to push agri-trade among northeast youth

GUWAHATI: Neramac (North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation), an initiative of the Centre, has taken up several plans to help the youths of the region establish agri-business ventures. Neramac feels agri-business has a huge potential in the region and it can provide youths a wonderful opportunity to become financially sound.

In order to provide a bridge for local producers and growers of various agri-products, Neramac is also organizing a food processing investors' meet in the city on Friday. "We are organizing this event to bolster the food processing sector in the northeast region. It will be a mentoring workshop for budding agri-entrepreuners and will enable people to understand the different schemes offered by the ministry of food processing industries," said S Bhattacharjee, the managing director of Neramac.

"It is basically for those who are keen to participate in the development and setting up of the food processing industry in the northeast in general and Assam in particular, through direct investments, joint associations or tie ups with food processing companies in the country," he said.

The organization has several programmes to facilitate the youths of the region to take up agri-business and become financially sound.

"We have an abundance of natural recourses and our youths can take up the opportunity to set up successful agri-business ventures. We have already spearheaded several programmes similar to this and are ready to facilitate the youths and help them realize their dreams," said Bhattacharjee.

The marketing sector is equally important and Neramac has taken up its role as a dynamic and vibrant marketing organization essentially to support the farmers. Neramac is also planning to help with marketing of fresh and processed products in various states by extending its activities of trading and marketing of fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, minor forest products like grass brooms, bamboo shoot products etc, he explained.

Horticulture crops being a priority thrust area for the region, Neramac is setting up a few more processing units in the region, including a multi-fruit processing plant at Silchar and at Mankachar in the state.
