NE Baptist convention winds up in Kohima

Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): The first-ever get together of leaders of Baptist organizations in the entire North East region of India concluded on August 27. 135 leaders from Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal, Assam and Nagaland, representing 13 conventions, over 8000 churches and about 1.3 million baptised members, gathered from August 24 till the 27th at Jubilee Memorial Centre, Lerie in Kohima for a time of sharing and consultation. The event was held under the theme “Strengthen the good work” a verse from 2 Thes. 2:17.

The programme was organized by the Asia Pacific Baptist Federation and hosted by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council. The resources included among others Rev. Dr. Fausto Vasconcelos, the Director of Mission, Evangelism & Theological Reflection of Baptist World Alliance, Rev. Bonny Resu, General Secretary of Asia Pacific Baptist Federation, Rev. Dr. Timothy Lee, Chairman of Mission & Evangelism, Rev. Chris Barnden, Director of Ministries of Global Interactions, Australian Baptist Churches and Rev. Dr. Laiu Fachhai, Director of Serving In Mission North East India.

Organizers said the meeting concluded with a poignant service, which included a feet-washing ceremony and a declaration. The declaration, called the “Kohima Declaration” strongly emphasised on the need for the Baptist family to work in close coordination and partnership with each other, a note from the organizers said today.
