Imphal-Silchar route security stepped up

IMPHAL: A large number of state and paramilitary forces, including lady CRPF personnel, have been deployed along the deplorable NH-53 to ensure safe journey of loaded trucks from Silchar to Imphal in the wake of the intensified stir in Manipur hills.

There's a possibility of over 800 goods trucks carrying petroleum products , life saving drugs, rice and cement bags on NH 53 to reach the Manipur capital on Saturday. For this, elaborate security measures have been taken at all strategic locations along the route, which is the second life line of strife-torn Manipur.

Though the trucks left Jiribam sub-division bordering Assam on Thursday along with Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion escorts, the vehicles halted at a strategic location en route to the national capital, police said.
