Mrs. Takatula wife of late Senayangba Jamir of Ungma village, turned 100 on January 19,2014. The centenary celebration was held at a simple yet impressive function here Sunday. Among those who greeted Mrs Takatula on turning 100, included seven children led by eldest son and Governor of Odisha Dr. S.C Jamir, 31 grand children, 49 great-grand children, family members and well wishers. Even after turning 100, Mrs. Takatula still has sharp memory, good eye-sight and hearing like a 20 year old. A family member said, she can still read the Bible without wearing spectacles at this age.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. S.C Jamir attributed his successful career to his mother from whom, he inculcated the value of hard work. Dr. Jamir said while his father, late Senayangba devoted his service to the British govt. as head Dobashi and teacher, his mother took care of the children and home. Despite having to do all the household work, multi-tasking and making sure that her children attended school, he said.
In her brief message, Mrs. Takatula gave glory to God for blessing her family and said her last wish, was for her family to put Christ at the centre of their lives. She mothered 11 children of which seven are surviving. Felicitations and presentations were made by family members and well wishers. Earlier, Rev. Lanu Yanger pronounced the invocation.
