5 bus passengers killed by NDFB militants

GUWAHATI: Suspected militants belonging to the National Democratic Front of Boroland(Songbijit) faction waylaid a night bus near Kokrajhar on the Assam-West Bengal border and killed five passengers on Friday night. Two injured passengers were taken to hospital.

A spokesman of the outfit called up the media and claimed responsibility for the massacre. A police official said the private bus was on way from Siliguri in West Bengal to Lahimpur in Assam.

Sources said the militants 'selected' about nine bus passengers, brought them out and fired at them from automatic weapons.

The identity of the victims was not known immediately, but were suspected to be Hindi-speaking.
