State government has constituted a three-member high power enquiry committee (HPEC) to probe into the recovery of nine bodies from Pachaspura area, Chumekedima, Dimapur on Friday.
While describing the mass murder of the nine persons as “gruesome and reprehensible”, the state home department said the HPEC has been constituted along with police investigation-- special investigation team (SIT).
According to a state home department, political branch notification issued by chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir, Saturday, the committee would comprise of K.N. Chishi, secretary justice and law as the convenor; T. Roy, joint secretary (home) and Vikiye Kenye, DC, commissioner’s office as members.
The terms of reference for the enquiry committee would be: a) Motives and reasons for the murder and circumstances leading to the commission of such heinous crime; b) Whether the crime is the handiwork of individuals, groups of people or organizations; c) the identity of the perpetrators of the crime; d) the identity of the mine deceased persons and e) suggest remedial measures to ensure such incidents do not occur in future.
SIT constituted
According to another order issued by the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) said the police has constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The order issued by DGP Besesayo Kezo said the SIT would comprise of Liremo Lotha, IPS, DIG (Range/NAP) Kohima as team leader; Watichuchang Jamir, Addl. SP, Dimapur; Relo Aye SDPO, Dimapur and UBI Kevisebeilie, OC Diphupar PS as members.
The order said that the SIT would investigate into all aspects and submit the report at the earliest. IGP (Ops) Nagaland would supervise the case and submit supervisory note to the DGP on a regular basis for monitoring the progress of the case with immediate effect.
Rio shocked by gruesome murder
State chief minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed shock over the gruesome murder of nine persons whose bodies were recovered by on Friday in Pachaspura area, Chumukedima, Dimapur. In a statement issued by commissioner and secretary to chief minister L. Kire, the chief minister condemned the heinous crime and has termed it as a “reprehensible act that was repugnant to all norms of civilization”.
L. Kire said that under the direction of the state chief minister, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a high power enquiry committee has been constituted to probe the case and bring the culprits to book.
The chief minister has directed that no stone be left unturned to uncover the perpetrators of the crime and to ensure that they were apprehended and punished under the appropriate provisions of the law. Rio has also appealed for calm asked the people to maintain peace in the face of such adversities and extend help to the investigating agencies specially the police.
ASU assures protection to Karbis in Kohima
Angami Students’ Union (ASU) while condemning the killing of nine innocent people, including a Karbi student leader near Chumukedima, Dimapur by unknown miscreants, assured “full protection and security” to Karbis in Kohima.
In a statement, ASU president Zhakie Khate said if the killings of the nine person were related to the recent violence between Karbis and Naga people in Karbi Anglong district, the union assures “full protection and security to Karbi people in Kohima and that there is no reason for the Karbis in Kohima to panic”. ASU further cautioned that if at all anyone touches them (Karbis), it would be the “first to go against those anti-social elements”. The act perpetrated on the innocent people itself is anti-Naga, ASU said.
“As per Naga custom there is nothing that allows even an enemy to be shot by tying their hands. We highly condemn the action those perpetrators who committed such a heinous crime”, ASU added. Stating that Karbis and Nagas would continue to exist as neigbours for all times, ASU said “it is only us to maintain the good relationship or destroy it”.
With humility, ASU said it appealed both Nagas and Karbis to restrain themselves from creating such unwanted situation.
Naga Hoho condemns killings
Naga Hoho (NH) Saturday vehemently condemned “the brutal and barbaric killing of nine persons including a student leader Harlongbi Ingti, secretary, Karbi Students’ Association, Bokajan Branch”.
In a statement, NH general secretary Mutsikhoyo Yhobu appealed to the state government to immediately apprehend the culprit. Naga Hoho further appealed to all section of the society to shun violence and maintain peaceful coexistence.
CVC condemns massacre
Chumoukedima Village Council (CVC) has condemned the killing of nine persons whose bodies were recovered from Khuprizana valley (Puchaspura range).
In a statement, CVC chairman P. Beituo Hama, secretary Mhasiletuo Visezo, head BG Zeno Kire and youth president Medo Medoze said this “barbaric and inhuman action” and heinous crime was intolerable to the people of Chumoukedima village in particular and Nagas in general. CVC said the nature of the crime indicated that it was committed outside the village area and the bodies dumped under its jurisdiction with the intention to degrade and damage peaceful status of Chumoukedima Village.
CVC also cautioned and warned people from committing such crime in future and urged the police and district administration to expedite the investigation and bring the culprits to book.
