GUWAHATI: A teacher of a primary school was gang-raped by two miscreants in Assam's Darang district when she was returning home.
Though the incident took place on Tuesday evening, police was swift to react and arrested both the accused on Wednesday.
Muslimuddin (33) and Joynal (27), both workers of Chikonmati Tea Estate, stopped the woman when she was returning home and demanded money from her.
When she refused to pay, the duo took her to the nearby tea garden and raped her. Later, locals rescued the woman and lodged a complaint at Dalgaon police station.
The incident triggered a huge public outcry demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. Locals even blocked NH-52 in protest against the incident.
