EC detects 29000 fake voters in Arunachal

Itanagar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has detected over 29,000 duplicate voters in the state electoral roll and already deleted 5,000 names, Arunachal Pradesh chief electoral officer (CEO) Chandra Bhushan Kumar said here on Monday.

"The lists of duplicate electors have been sent to all district election officers for verification through booth-level officers (BLOs). The officers have also been directed to delete names from the electoral rolls if necessary," Kumar said at a press conference on Monday. He added that the ECI has already developed a software to spot errors in the electoral roll.

The special summary revision of photo electoral roll with January 1, 2014 as the qualifying date would be launched in the state on Tuesday along with rest of the country, he said. The objective of the revision was to create an error-free electoral roll with the Lok Sabha and assembly election in the state due in May and September next year respectively.

"Sixty electoral registration officers (EROs), under the supervision of 16 district election officers (DEOs), will carry the revision in the state in 2,159 polling stations, including 48 new stations, manned by BLOs," the CEO said.

Arunachal Pradesh has 7, 40, 968 voters, including 13, 996 electorates, in the age group between 18 and19 years. The total percentage of electoral photo identity card (EPIC) coverage in the state is 99.48.
