Basing on specific intelligent inputs, BSF along with Mizoram police special branch (CID) launched a joint operation on August 28 at Lengtei in Sairang district, Mizoram, and arrested five persons including three Indian nationals and two Bangladeshi nationals along with huge quantity of arms and ammunitions.
The accused have been identified as Somitro Chakma (43 yrs), son of Mona Chakma of Langudu village, Bangladesh; Jius Chakma (28 yrs), son of Mrinal Kanti Chakma of Bhagaichhari village, Bangladesh; Joy Chakma (31 yrs), son of Chandran Chakma of Tuipuibari village, Mizoram; Dipankar Chakma (33 yrs), son of Amit Barman Chakma of Rajiv Nagar II village, Mizoram; and Puranajoy Chakma (45 yrs), son of Cholu Chandra Chakma of Rajivnagar II village, Mizoram.
The joint team also recovered five weapons of M-16 Rifles series, 4000 live AK 47 rounds, 1100 live M-16 rounds, Rs 60,000 and 10 mobile phones.
The apprehended persons came in a Tata Sumo bearing Registration No. MZ-01-J0274 from Lengpui airport and was intercepted at Lengtei (7 km from Lengpui airport). The arms and ammunition were smuggled from Myanmar and was meant for insurgent groups.
The apprehended persons along with seized arms and ammunitions were handed over to Mizoram police on the same day for further investigation.
