Sumis withdraws support to NSCN (IM), calls for flush out in Sumi inhabitated areas

The Sumi community has sounded flush out operation against the NSCN (IM) from Sumi inhabitated areas part of the non cooperation towards the outfit for failure on the part of the NSCN (IM) to fulfil the 3 point charter of demands made by the Sumi frontal organisations on the December 21 incident near Aghuito town some 12 kilometers from Zunheboto Town.

Citizens of Zunheboto in large numbers gathered at Centre Point today to express resentment over the failure of the NSCN (IM) to hand over the errant cadres involved in the incident where a lady missionary along with seven other passengers that included the driver, were beaten up mercilessly and the female passengers stripped and molested.

Thousands of people some of them armed with sticks, spears and daos reiterated their demand to the NSCN (IM) to produce the cadres at the rally and warned the Sumi frontal organisation leaders of serious consequences if concrete action against the NSCN (IM) was not taken.

Responding to the call for implementation of non cooperation towards the NSCN (IM), the entire Sumi community has asked 25 members from each Sumi village throughout the state to reach Zunheboto town on December 28 with available arms to flush out the NSCN (IM) cadres from Zunheboto district.

To this, leaders from the Sumi community, with active support from the youth plan to evacuate the NSCN (IM) designated camp located at Ghathashi under Pughoboto sub-division.
The deadline for handing over the culprits to the district administration ended on December 25. On Wednesday, the residence of Sumi Hoho president was surrounded by angry mob on hearing that a delegation from NSCN (IM) “fact finding committee” had come to meet the Sumi Hoho leaders for “compromise.”

The mob, especially the youth armed with sticks and machetes prevented the NSCN (IM) delegation from leaving the place until their demands were fulfilled. It was only after the written assurance that the culprits would be handed over to the district administration before noon December 26 that they were allowed to leave.
The ire of the public also escalated upon the news that certain members from the regional authority of the NSCN (IM) tried to “pay-off” the victims with money to silence them.

Thursday’s rally was organised in anticipation for the fulfilment of the written assurance. However, till 5 P.M in the evening, no word nor action were complied by the NSCN (IM) authorities. The public therefore resolved to take the extreme action and entrusted the Sumi frontal organisations to take steps and measures towards the flush out operation.

It may be mentioned that four NSCN (IM) cadres waylaid a Zunheboto bound Sumo in the wee hours of December 21 morning and attempted to “rape” and “molest” two female passengers and also inflicted grievous injuries to two other male passengers. This triggered a mass resentment among the Sumi community thereby resulting to a massive rally on December 22 where it was resolved that the errant NSCN (IM) cadres be handed over to the district administration within 3 days failing which a call for non cooperation towards the NSCN (IM) would be initiated.
